My Relationship with New Years
MaryJayne Waddell | DEC 30, 2023

I used to love New Years Eve celebrations.
Dressing up, going to parties,
making out with my current squeeze at midnight.
Oh, how things have changed.
In my earlier years, it was a badge of honor to have puked,
passed out or made out with the guy you'd never have the
courage to if you were sober.
The first morning of the year, I would wake up groaning
with a hangover, desperately trying to remember what happened.
My friends and I would nervously recall, or not, the happenings of the party.
In my later, more aware years, I still enjoy a glass or two,
ok, probably the whole bottle, of dry cab before dark.
I'll be safely at home, off the roads and in no danger
as long as I don't start sending facebook messages after I finish the bottle.
I'm happy that most of my friends no longer have NYE parties
since dressing up for me requires ample scheduling and
I'm squeezeless.
What I do love about NYE is the next day is usually a day off and
I won't wake up wondering who I made out with.
I feel kinda sad about that...you know, no current squeeze.
So, New Years Eve is a night where we get to choose:
drink until you forget or reflect and resolve to find
some special squeeze to make out with on NYE in 2024.
I'm going to put that on my vision board.
Happy New Year friends! Kisses!
